It's Fall!  Almost..

Before I became a hair dresser , it seemed pretty obvious that at the beginning of the summer everyone would get their hair cut short, and grow it back for the coming year.  Its hot in the summer, and  so much easier , right ?
Surprise - its the opposite . In the summer,  its easier to leave hair long enough to pull up, and not worry about style. . Summer is casual, vacation time, fun and unstructured .
Fall is almost here, and Fall is as close to New Years, as - well, New Years!   Fall brings beginnings. For kids, its a new school year, perhaps a new school.  Friends not seen for a few months, and a chance to be someone new .    We all remember how that feels : new clothes, new shoes, new  books .  A new start!

So we can all start fresh in the fall . A new style, perhaps a shorter , fresher look. Or a new color : a little darker for fall, some low lights  to enhance one's natural color, or high lights for a lighter brighter look.

What will you do to welcome the new season?

Many  of you have asked why the move to a new location?  Here's the short answer : I wanted a place just for curly girls, where we are free to explore new products and techniques , resulting in the best possible curls for you.  Curly girls are unique , aren't we?  We are so educated and are constantly searching for the newest ways to achieve those beautiful curls.  We have tried  so many products in our search, looking for that perfect combination. And when we have a great hair day, we want to duplicate everything we did :from  products, how it was drIed, how we slept , even what we ate for breakfast!  Remember, you have beautifully textured curls. As Lorraine Massey, author of Curly Girl: The Handbook says :  embrace the ambiguity !  I  love that !  It means our hair does look different depending on so many things, but that's ok.  What's important is we learn to love what we have, no matter what.
To get back to the why I moved, it's my friends in Curly Hair Artistry who were my inspiration. These passionate Curly Artists from all over the world are truly inspiring . Those of us in Curly Hair Artistry are all about the curl, and only about the curl.  I have learned so much from them, and at any time of my day I can ask a question and will get a flood of answers. Who can ask for a better more for supportive group?

     So -

If you're in need of a new curly stylist, or just want to stop by, come see me.
Us curly girls need to stick together .

Ready for a great New Curl Year?

While  not a great fan of  New Year's Resolutions,  there are some important curl resolutions to be made.

So -

Repeat after me:   In order to have the beautiful hydrated curls that nature intended, I must never ever ~

~ Use a comb or brush on my curls. Unless using on a dog, doll, or removing fabric fuzz, throw them out!

~ wash with a cleanser containing sulfates. It will only dry your hair. Don't even use it on your favorite sweater!

~  Use a terry cloth towel to either wrap , or heaven forbid, rub my hair. It's too drying and abrasive. Instead, gently scrunch with a flour sack towel or an old tee shirt. We all have a few of those around.

~   Blast my hair with heat at a high temperature or volume.  Too drying and it destroys your curl pattern. And so unnecessary.  Instead, either air dry, or set your curls for  a few minutes with the diffuser, or my personal favorite, the hood dryer.  Hopefully you don't wash your hair that often, so it's not too difficult to have damp hair for awhile.

Let's start with these, and add as we go.
Heres to a great Curl Year !
